How to Help Your Child Adjust to Daycare

If you’re a parent, then you know that it can be hard to leave your child with someone else. We want to help you take the stress out of leaving your little ones in the hands of others. We’ve put together a list of ways that will make your child’s transition into childcare smoother:

  • Give Your Child a Transition Object
One thing you can do to help your child transition to kindercare is to give them a transition object. A stuffed animal or blanket they’ve had since birth is ideal because it’s familiar and comforting.
  • Say Goodbye and Leave Promptly
Don’t drag out the goodbye or make a big deal out of it because it will only upset your child and make them more anxious about the situation.
  • Tell Your Child What to Expect
Letting your child know what to expect ahead of time will help ease the transition into this new environment. Explain what will happen when they arrive at daycare. For example, playing with toys, listening to music, sitting at the table for snack or story time, etc.

At Petits Poussins, we know it’s not easy to send a child off to a Childcare Service in New York for the first time, that is why we’re here to help your child adjust to our program through a series of fun activities and games.

Our approach to Early Childhood Education is based on the belief that all children are capable of learning and growing if given the opportunity, which is why we focus on nurturing each child individually. We don’t believe in cookie-cutter approaches.
